Justice— do you rulers know the meaning of the word? Do you judge the people fairly?

Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge people with equity?

Are you rulers really fair when you speak? Do you judge people honestly?

Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly?

Do you really speak righteously, you mighty ones? Do you judge people fairly?

Do you indeed speak righteousness, you gods? Do you judge fairly, you sons of mankind?

Do you indeed speak righteousness, you silent ones? Do you judge uprightly, you sons of men?

Do ye indeed in silence speak righteousness? Do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?

Do you really speak righteously, you mighty ones? Do you judge people fairly?

Do you rulers really pronounce just decisions? Do you judge people fairly?

Do you indeed speak righteousness, silent ones? Do you judge blamelessly, you sons of men?

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.

He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle to stand there with you.

God presides over heaven’s court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings:“ How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked? Interlude

So I took the wise and respected men you had selected from your tribes and appointed them to serve as judges and officials over you. Some were responsible for a thousand people, some for a hundred, some for fifty, and some for ten.“ At that time I instructed the judges,‘ You must hear the cases of your fellow Israelites and the foreigners living among you. Be perfectly fair in your decisions

Rescue me from my enemies, O God. Protect me from those who have come to destroy me.

So at daybreak the apostles entered the Temple, as they were told, and immediately began teaching. When the high priest and his officials arrived, they convened the high council— the full assembly of the elders of Israel. Then they sent for the apostles to be brought from the jail for trial.

and he said to them,“ Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case.Fear the Lord and judge with integrity, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”

So there at Hebron, King David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel.

The God of Israel spoke. The Rock of Israel said to me:‘ The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

“ For the time is coming,” says the Lord,“ when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land.And this will be his name:‘ The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.

“ Appoint judges and officials for yourselves from each of your tribes in all the towns the Lord your God is giving you. They must judge the people fairly.You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly.

I say,‘ You are gods; you are all children of the Most High.But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’”

At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest,

Now there was a good and righteous man named Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish high council,but he had not agreed with the decision and actions of the other religious leaders. He was from the town of Arimathea in Judea, and he was waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.

Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son.Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful.Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.

Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.

Look, a righteous king is coming! And honest princes will rule under him.
