敵人在城、強暴相爭、予求上主、翦滅是行、撓亂其謀、使之弗成兮、

我在城中、見有強暴爭鬥之事、求主毀滅之、使其所設之謀、分歧不成、

避此暴風雨。安然居寶塔。

Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city.

Lord, confuse the sinners and keep them from understanding one another. I see people destroying things and fighting in the city.

Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city.

Confuse them, Lord, and frustrate their plans, for I see violence and conflict in the city.

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them,“ Why have you not brought Him?”The officers answered,“ No man ever spoke like this Man!”Then the Pharisees answered them,“ Are you also deceived?Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”Nicodemus( he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,“ Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”They answered and said to him,“ Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”And everyone went to his own house.

Then someone told David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said,“ O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!See! Your house is left to you desolate;

Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ Now let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight.I will come upon him while he is weary and weak, and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee, and I will strike only the king.Then I will bring back all the people to you. When all return except the man whom you seek, all the people will be at peace.”And the saying pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel.Then Absalom said,“ Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he says too.”And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying,“ Ahithophel has spoken in this manner. Shall we do as he says? If not, speak up.”So Hushai said to Absalom:“ The advice that Ahithophel has given is not good at this time.For,” said Hushai,“ you know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are enraged in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field; and your father is a man of war, and will not camp with the people.Surely by now he is hidden in some pit, or in some other place. And it will be, when some of them are overthrown at the first, that whoever hears it will say,‘ There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.’And even he who is valiant, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will melt completely. For all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men.Therefore I advise that all Israel be fully gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in person.So we will come upon him in some place where he may be found, and we will fall on him as the dew falls on the ground. And of him and all the men who are with him there shall not be left so much as one.Moreover, if he has withdrawn into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city; and we will pull it into the river, until there is not one small stone found there.”So Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom.

Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies; They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to Me, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council,“ Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees; and the assembly was divided.For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection— and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.Then there arose a loud outcry. And the scribes of the Pharisees’ party arose and protested, saying,“ We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.”Now when there arose a great dissension, the commander, fearing lest Paul might be pulled to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the barracks.
