非敵我者詬我、若然、尚可容忍、非憾我者驕我、若然、則必退避兮、

今有人焉、矜詡侮予、非予寇讎、非予仇隙、設或是之、猶可隱忍、杜門不出、

毀謗我者、素非仇人、若是仇人、尚可忍耐、向我狂傲者、素非憾我之人、若是憾我之人、猶可隱避、

惡黨充街衢。行為暴且譎。

If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide.

If an enemy were making fun of me, I could stand it. If he were getting ready to oppose me, I could hide.

For it is not an enemy who taunts me— then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him.

It is not an enemy who taunts me— I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me— I could have hidden from them.

Now it is not an enemy who insults me— otherwise I could bear it; it is not a foe who rises up against me— otherwise I could hide from him.

Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, or else I could hide from him.

For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hidden myself from him.

Even my friend in whom I trusted, one who ate my bread, has raised his heel against me.

I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the Scripture must be fulfilled: The one who eats My bread has raised his heel against Me.

While they were eating, He said,“ I assure you: One of you will betray Me.”Deeply distressed, each one began to say to Him,“ Surely not I, Lord?”He replied,“ The one who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl— he will betray Me.

Let those who rejoice at my misfortune be disgraced and humiliated; let those who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and reproach.

Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place, because Jesus often met there with His disciples.So Judas took a company of soldiers and some temple police from the chief priests and the Pharisees and came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

For I said,“ Don’t let them rejoice over me— those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble.”

Does an ax exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a staff waving the one who lifts it! It would be like a rod lifting a man who isn’t wood!
