Foolish people say in their hearts,“ There is no God.” They do all kinds of horrible and evil things. No one does anything good.

He wants to see if there are any who understand. He wants to see if there are any who trust in God.All of them have turned away. They have all become evil. No one does anything good, no one at all.Do all these people who do evil know nothing? They eat up my people as if they were eating bread. They never call out to the Lord.But just look at them! They are filled with terror because God is among those who do right.You who do evil keep poor people from succeeding. But the Lord is their place of safety.How I pray that the God who saves Israel will come out of Zion! Then the Lord will bless his people with great success again. So let the people of Jacob be filled with joy! Let Israel be glad!

Because he is proud, that evil person doesn’t turn to the Lord. There is no room for God in any of his thoughts.

It is written,“ No one is right with God, no one at all.No one understands. No one trusts in God.All of them have turned away. They have all become worthless. No one does anything good, no one at all.”( Psalms 14:1–3; 53:1–3; Ecclesiastes 7:20)“ Their throats are like open graves. With their tongues they tell lies.”( Psalm 5:9)“ The words from their lips are like the poison of a snake.”( Psalm 140:3)“ Their mouths are full of curses and bitterness.”( Psalm 10:7)“ They run quickly to commit murder.They leave a trail of harmful actions.They do not know how to live in peace.”( Isaiah 59:7, 8)“ They don’t have any respect for God.”( Psalm 36:1)What the law says, it says to those who are ruled by the law. Its purpose is to shut every mouth and make the whole world accountable to God.So no one will be considered right with God by obeying the law. Instead, the law makes us more aware of our sin.But now God has shown us his saving power without the help of the law. But the Law and the Prophets tell us about this.We are made right with God by putting our faith in Jesus Christ. This happens to all who believe. It is no different for the Jews than for the Gentiles.Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory.The free gift of God’s grace makes us right with him. Christ Jesus paid the price to set us free.God gave Christ as a sacrifice to pay for sins through the spilling of his blood. So God forgives the sins of those who have faith. God did all this to prove that he does what is right. He is a God of mercy. So he did not punish for their sins the people who lived before Jesus lived.God did all this to prove in our own time that he does what is right. He also makes right with himself those who believe in Jesus.So who can brag? No one! Are people saved by the law that requires them to obey? Not at all! They are saved because of the law that requires faith.We firmly believe that a person is made right with God because of their faith. They are not saved by obeying the law.Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn’t he also the God of Gentiles? Yes, he is their God too.There is only one God. When those who are circumcised believe in him, he makes them right with himself. Suppose those who are not circumcised believe in him. Then God also will make them right with himself.Does faith make the law useless? Not at all! We agree with the law.

They didn’t think it was important to know God. So God let them continue to have evil thoughts. They did things they shouldn’t do.

“‘ Do not make yourselves“ unclean” in any of these ways. That is how other nations became“ unclean.” So I am going to drive those nations out of the land to make room for you.Even their land was not“ clean.” So I punished it because of its sin. The land itself threw out the people who lived there.But you must keep my rules and my laws. You must not do any of the things I hate. It does not matter whether you are Israelites or outsiders.All these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you. That is how the land became“ unclean.”If you make the land“ unclean,” it will throw you out. It will get rid of you just as it got rid of the nations there before you.“‘ Suppose you do any of the things I hate. Then you must be separated from your people.Do exactly what I require. When you arrive in Canaan, do not follow any of the practices of its people. I hate the things they do. Do not make yourselves“ unclean” by doing them. I am the Lord your God.’ ”

There were even male prostitutes at the temples in the land. The people took part in all the practices of other nations. The Lord hated those practices. He had driven those nations out to make room for the Israelites.

But here is what I tell you. Do not be angry with a brother or sister. Anyone who is angry with them will be judged. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister,‘ Raca,’ must stand trial in court. And anyone who says,‘ You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire in hell.

Jeroboam thought,“ My kingdom still isn’t secure. It could very easily go back to the royal family of David.

The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become. They only thought about evil things.The Lord was very sad that he had made human beings on the earth. His heart was filled with pain.

You have spent enough time in the past doing what ungodly people choose to do. You lived a wild life. You longed for evil things. You got drunk. You went to wild parties. You worshiped statues of gods, which the Lord hates.

Who can bring what is pure from something that isn’t pure? No one!

So he’ll certainly find fault with human beings. After all, they are evil and sinful. They drink up evil as if it were water.

It is shameful even to talk about what people who don’t obey do in secret.

Lord, you are the God who saves me. Day and night I cry out to you.

Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You sinned even more than they did. I hate those sins. Compared to what you did, you made your sisters seem godly.

You lived exactly the way they did. You copied their evil practices. I hate those practices. Everything you did was so sinful that you soon became even worse than they were.

You must not worship the Lord your God the way they worship their gods. When they worship, they do all kinds of evil things the Lord hates. They even burn up their children in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.

Sinful people say to themselves,“ God will never notice. He covers his face. He never sees us.”

“ But God said to him,‘ You foolish man! Tonight I will take your life away from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

Here is something that people without sense don’t know. Here is what foolish people don’t understand.

Why do sinful people attack you with their words? Why do they say to themselves,“ He won’t hold us accountable”?

They knew God. But they didn’t honor him as God. They didn’t thank him. Their thinking became worthless. Their foolish hearts became dark.

He says to himself,“ I will always be secure.” He promises himself,“ No one will ever harm me.”

The earth was very sinful in God’s eyes. It was full of people who did mean and harmful things.God saw how sinful the earth had become. All its people were living very sinful lives.So God said to Noah,“ I am going to put an end to everyone. They have filled the earth with their harmful acts. I am certainly going to destroy them and the earth.
