A person who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

“ Woe to you! You are like unmarked graves; the people who walk over them don’t know it.”

An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked person: Dread of God has no effect on him.For with his flattering opinion of himself, he does not discover and hate his iniquity.The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.Even on his bed he makes malicious plans. He sets himself on a path that is not good, and he does not reject evil.

They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,senseless, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.

Common people are only a vapor; important people, an illusion. Together on a scale, they weigh less than a vapor.

I will be partial to no one, and I will not give anyone an undeserved title.For I do not know how to give such titles; otherwise, my Maker would remove me in an instant.

They devise crimes and say,“ We have perfected a secret plan.” The inner man and the heart are mysterious.

They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts.May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks boastfully.

No, you practice injustice in your hearts; with your hands you weigh out violence in the land.The wicked go astray from the womb; liars wander about from birth.

For we never used flattering speech, as you know, or had greedy motives— God is our witness—

But the Lord said to him,“ Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and evil.

For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.

Wash the evil from your heart, Jerusalem, so that you will be delivered. How long will you harbor malicious thoughts?

The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable— who can understand it?
