I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:

I will pay attention to a proverb. I will explain my riddle as I play the harp.

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.

I turn my ear to a proverb; I explain my riddle with a lyre.

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will express my riddle on the harp.

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark saying on the harp.

I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

I turn my ear to a proverb; I explain my riddle with a lyre.

I will learn a song that imparts wisdom; I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment of a harp.

for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—

This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet:“ I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.”

by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles.

This was the message Balaam delivered:“ Balak summoned me to come from Aram; the king of Moab brought me from the eastern hills.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me! Come and announce Israel’s doom.’

I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the Lord as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”

“ At the end of their rule, when their sin is at its height, a fierce king, a master of intrigue, will rise to power.

Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, they are saying of me,‘ He only talks in riddles!’”

Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.

He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.That is why I use these parables, For they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says,‘ When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.’
