Common people are only a vapor; important people, an illusion. Together on a scale, they weigh less than a vapor.

My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in,if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say,“ Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor person,“ Stand over there,” or“ Sit here on the floor by my footstool,”haven’t you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?Yet you have dishonored the poor. Don’t the rich oppress you and drag you into court?Don’t they blaspheme the good name that was invoked over you?

Then I thought: They are just the poor; they have been foolish. For they don’t understand the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.I will go to the powerful and speak to them. Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God. However, these also had broken the yoke and torn off the chains.

Then the kings of the earth, the nobles, the generals, the rich, the powerful, and every slave and free person hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.And they said to the mountains and to the rocks,“ Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb,because the great day of their wrath has come! And who is able to stand?”

The LORD brings poverty and gives wealth; he humbles and he exalts.He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the trash heap. He seats them with noblemen and gives them a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s; he has set the world on them.

God is not partial to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands.

Let the brother of humble circumstances boast in his exaltation,but let the rich boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field.For the sun rises and, together with the scorching wind, dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance perishes. In the same way, the rich person will wither away while pursuing his activities.

Rich and poor have this in common: the LORD makes them all.
