Even though people may be very rich, they don’t live on and on. They are like the animals. They die.

但人居尊贵中不能长久，如同死亡的畜类一样。

人居尊位、不能久長、猶死亡之畜兮、

人爵雖顯、不得永存、猶禽獸之速亡兮。

豈知人在榮華、不能永久、無異滅亡之畜類、

意謂基業固。第宅保萬世。孳孳求田舍。瑣瑣標名字。

People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.

Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.

but their fame will not last. They will die, just like animals.

But despite his assets, mankind will not last; he is like the animals that perish.

But man in his splendor will not endure; He is like the animals that perish.

Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain; He is like the beasts that perish.

But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

But despite his assets, man will not last; he is like the animals that perish.

I also said to myself,“ God tests human beings. He does this so they can see that in certain ways they are like animals.Surely what happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don’t have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.People and animals go to the same place. All of them come from dust. And all of them return to dust.Who can know whether the spirit of a person goes up? Who can tell whether the spirit of an animal goes down into the earth?”

People who have riches but don’t understand are like the animals. They die.

You have given me only a few days to live. My whole life doesn’t seem like anything to you. No one lasts any longer than a breath. This is true even for those who feel secure.

But you will die, like mere human beings. You will die like every other leader.”

It is written,“ All people are like grass. All their glory is like the flowers in the field. The grass dries up. The flowers fall to the ground.

No one knows when trouble will come to them. Fish are caught in nets. Birds are taken in traps. And people are trapped by hard times that come when they don’t expect them.

But rich people should take pride in their low positions. That’s because they will fade away like wild flowers.The sun rises. Its burning heat dries up the plants. Their blossoms fall. Their beauty is destroyed. In the same way, rich people will fade away. They fade away even as they go about their business.
