You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.

You love what is right and hate what is evil. So your God has placed you above your companions. He has filled you with joy by pouring the sacred oil on your head.

He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.

You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.

So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

And he will reply,‘ I tell you, I don’t know you or where you come from. Get away from me, all you who do evil.’

Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty— but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
