God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.

For you are the God of my strength. Why have you rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed.You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust.You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin.All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors.You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries. For the Lord will not cast off forever.For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

“ Don’t consider what this people has spoken, saying,‘ Has Yahweh cast off the two families which he chose?’ Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.”Yahweh says:“ If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;then I will also cast away the offspring of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his offspring to be rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to be reversed and will have mercy on them.”

Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?

I ask then, did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.God didn’t reject his people, which he foreknew. Or don’t you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel:“ Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars. I am left alone, and they seek my life.”But how does God answer him?“ I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it?The boar out of the wood ravages it. The wild animals of the field feed on it.
