But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.

O God, why hast thou cast[ us] off for ever?[ why] doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

For thou[ art] the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown[ by casting it] to the ground.Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. For the Lord will not cast off for ever:But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant[ be] not with day and night,[ and if] I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant,[ so] that I will not take[ any] of his seed[ to be] rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

LORD, why castest thou off my soul?[ why] hidest thou thy face from me?

I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham,[ of] the tribe of Benjamin.God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to[ the image of] Baal.Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.And if by grace, then[ is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if[ it be] of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Why hast thou[ then] broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
