爾奚掩面、忘我所受之苦與虐兮、

奚棄予如遺、不顧我憂患兮、

因何掩面不顧、因何忘我所遭之苦難、所受之欺凌、

興矣吾恩主。奚為尚睡着。興矣毋永棄。我將淪死谷。

Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?

Why do you turn your face away from us? Why do you forget our pain and troubles?

Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

Why do you look the other way, and ignore the way we are oppressed and mistreated?

Why do you turn away from me? Why do you treat me as your enemy?

He said,‘ I will abandon them; then see what becomes of them. For they are a twisted generation, children without integrity.

Don’t let these wild beasts destroy your turtledoves. Don’t forget your suffering people forever.

O Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?

Declare me innocent, O God! Defend me against these ungodly people. Rescue me from these unjust liars.For you are God, my only safe haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live.There I will go to the altar of God, to God— the source of all my joy. I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God!

When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of all who had been martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their testimony.They shouted to the Lord and said,“ O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”

“ O God my rock,” I cry,“ why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?”

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way?

Don’t overlook what your enemies have said or their growing uproar.

Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God.God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

The wicked think,“ God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”
