I will pray to God, my high ridge:“ Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?”

我向上帝我磐石曰、爾何為忘我、我何為因敵之虐、而哀痛兮、

曰、我之上帝、如我岡巒、何遺我兮、何為敵人虐我、使予殷憂兮、

我向天主云、我倚主如磐、因何忘我、因何使我受仇敵凌虐、時常悲哀、

追念昔日兮。慈恩何富。朝承主之恩澤兮。暮抒予之仰慕。

I say to God my Rock,“ Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?”

I say to God my Rock,“ Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go around in sorrow? Why am I treated so badly by my enemies?”

I say to God, my rock:“ Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

“ O God my rock,” I cry,“ why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?”

I will say to God, my rock,“ Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?”

I am dazed and completely humiliated; all day long I walk around mourning.

For you are the God who shelters me. Why do you reject me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?

The LORD is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.

O LORD, reflect on what has happened to us; consider and look at our disgrace.Our inheritance is turned over to strangers; foreigners now occupy our homes.We have become fatherless orphans; our mothers have become widows.We must pay money for our own water; we must buy our own wood at a steep price.We are pursued– they are breathing down our necks; we are weary and have no rest.We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria in order to buy food to eat.Our forefathers sinned and are dead, but we suffer their punishment.Slaves rule over us; there is no one to rescue us from their power.At the risk of our lives we get our food because robbers lurk in the countryside.Our skin is hot as an oven due to a fever from hunger.They raped women in Zion, virgins in the towns of Judah.Princes were hung by their hands; elders were mistreated.The young men perform menial labor; boys stagger from their labor.The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped playing their music.Our hearts no longer have any joy; our dancing is turned to mourning.The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!

But when I hoped for good, trouble came; when I expected light, then darkness came.My heart is in turmoil unceasingly; the days of my affliction confront me.I go about blackened, but not by the sun; in the assembly I stand up and cry for help.I have become a brother to jackals and a companion of ostriches.My skin has turned dark on me; my body is hot with fever.My harp is used for mourning and my flute for the sound of weeping.

My eyes grow weak because of oppression. I call out to you, O LORD, all day long; I spread out my hands in prayer to you.

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away.My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up.

They remembered that God was their protector, and that the sovereign God was their deliverer.

So I again considered all the oppression that continually occurs on earth. This is what I saw: The oppressed were in tears, but no one was comforting them; no one delivers them from the power of their oppressors.

because of what the enemy says, and because of how the wicked pressure me, for they hurl trouble down upon me and angrily attack me.

He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended.

Why do you say, Jacob, Why do you say, Israel,“ The LORD is not aware of what is happening to me, My God is not concerned with my vindication”?

Can a woman forget her baby who nurses at her breast? Can she withhold compassion from the child she has borne? Even if mothers were to forget, I could never forget you!

How long, LORD, will you continue to ignore me? How long will you pay no attention to me?

To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave.

Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Wake up! Do not reject us forever!Why do you look the other way, and ignore the way we are oppressed and mistreated?

He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended.God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter.

Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?”
