小子所仰望。惟在聖主躬。主已應我求。呼籲達宸聰。

I was sliding down into the pit of death, and he pulled me out. He brought me up out of the mud and dirt. He set my feet on a rock. He gave me a firm place to stand on.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.

Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.

The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead.

because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay.You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’“ Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.

You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.

“ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.

For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me.Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.

The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.

The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit.

So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.But Ebed-Melek, a Cushite, an official in the royal palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. While the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate,Ebed-Melek went out of the palace and said to him,“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will starve to death when there is no longer any bread in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebed-Melek the Cushite,“ Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed-Melek took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.Ebed-Melek the Cushite said to Jeremiah,“ Put these old rags and worn-out clothes under your arms to pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so,

and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

They tried to end my life in a pit and threw stones at me;the waters closed over my head, and I thought I was about to perish.I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit.

They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.
