我曾说：“我要谨慎我的言行，免得我舌头犯罪；恶人在我面前的时候，我要用嚼环勒住我的口。”

我謂必謹我行、免舌干咎、惡人當前、必箝我口兮、

予飭我躬、謹我行、不以舌取戾、惡人在側、當箝口而慎言兮。

我嘗云、我必謹慎行為、免舌犯罪、當惡人在前、我必封閉我口、

I said,“ I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”

I said,“ I will be careful about how I live. I will not sin by what I say. I will keep my mouth closed when I am near sinful people.”

I said,“ I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, so long as the wicked are in my presence.”

I said to myself,“ I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.”

I said,“ I will guard my ways so that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle as long as the wicked are in my presence.”

I said,“ I will keep watch over my ways So that I do not sin with my tongue; I will keep watch over my mouth as with a muzzle While the wicked are in my presence.”

I said,“ I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.”

I said, I will take heed to my ways, That I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, While the wicked is before me.

I said,“ I will guard my ways so that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle as long as the wicked are in my presence.”

I decided,“ I will watch what I say and make sure I do not sin with my tongue. I will put a muzzle over my mouth while in the presence of an evil man.”

I said,“ I will watch my ways, so that I don’t sin with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me.”

少年人如何保持自己的行為純潔呢？就是要遵守你的話語！

保守自己的口與舌的，就保守自己的靈魂免受患難。

如果有人自以為是虔誠的，卻不克制自己的舌頭，反而欺騙自己的心，這個人的虔誠就是虛妄的。

耶和華啊，求你為我的口設立看守，求你謹守我嘴唇的門！

實際上，我們每一個人在很多事上都會跌倒。如果有人在言語上不跌倒，這個人就是一個成熟的人，也能夠克制全身。我們如果把嚼子放在馬嘴裡，使牠們服從，就可以駕馭牠們的全身。再看船隻，雖然它那麼大，又被狂風吹逐，但是無論舵手的意圖想去哪裡，它都能被小小的舵來駕馭。照樣，舌頭雖然是身體上一個小小的部分，卻能大大地自誇。看哪，那麼小的火，能點燃那麼大的森林！舌頭是火，它在我們身體的各部分中，是個不公義的世界；它玷汙全身，焚燒人生的路程，而且自己卻被地獄焚燒。原來，各類野獸、飛禽、爬行動物和水族都能被制伏，也已經被人類制伏了，可是沒有人能制伏舌頭；它是不止息的邪惡，充滿著致死的毒。

你們要把握機會，對外面的人靠智慧行事。

我的靈魂靜默，唯獨等候神，我的救恩從他而來。

因此，我們必須更加留心所聽過的事，免得隨流漂去。

他就當謹守舌頭不出惡言，謹守嘴唇不說欺詐的話。

你要度量腳下的路徑，你一切的道路就會被確立。你不要偏右，也不要偏左，要使你的腳離開惡事。

他們說：「我們要靠舌頭強盛，我們的嘴唇是自己的，誰是我們的主呢？」

我向著神發聲，我呼求；我向著神發聲，他就傾聽。

他們譏諷、嘲笑，懷著惡意說欺壓人的話。他們說話出於高傲；他們開口褻瀆上天，他們的舌頭殃及全地。

生與死都在舌頭的權下；喜愛它的必食其果。
