The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives.

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;

Sinful people borrow and don’t pay back. But those who are godly give freely to others.

The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;

The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.

The wicked person borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving.

The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives.

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.

Evil men borrow, but do not repay their debt, but the godly show compassion and are generous.

It goes well for a person who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment.

And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.

He has given freely to the poor, His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted in honor.

The Lord will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless every work of your hand; and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, by having served and by still serving the saints.

Now a woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying,“ Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.”So Elisha said to her,“ What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said,“ Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”Then he said,“ Go, borrow containers elsewhere for yourself, empty containers from all your neighbors— do not get too few.Then you shall come in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour into all these containers; and you shall set aside what is full.”So she left him and shut the door behind her and her sons; they began bringing the containers to her, and she poured the oil.

The stranger who is among you will rise above you higher and higher, and you will go down lower and lower.He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him; he will be the head, and you will be the tail.

In everything I showed you that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

But the noble person devises noble plans; And by noble plans he stands.

Is it not to break your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will spring up quickly; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; You will cry for help, and He will say,‘ Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,And if you offer yourself to the hungry And satisfy the need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness, And your gloom will become like midday.

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the orphan has not shared it( But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from my infancy I guided her),If I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering,If his waist has not thanked me, And if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep,

And to the extent that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brothers and sisters living in Judea.

Now I say this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows generously will also reap generously.Each one must do just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.And God is able to make all grace overflow to you, so that, always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;as it is written:“ He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness endures forever.”Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness;you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all,while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you.Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

Now there was a great outcry of the people and of their wives against their Jewish brothers.For there were those who said,“ We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let’s get grain so that we may eat and live.”And there were others who said,“ We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses so that we might get grain because of the famine.”There also were those who said,“ We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards.And now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.

Be careful that there is no mean spirited thought in your heart, such as,‘ The seventh year, the year of release of debts, is near,’ and your eye is malicious toward your poor brother, and you give him nothing; then he may cry out to the Lord against you, and it will be a sin in you.You shall generously give to him, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your work, and in all your undertakings.For the poor will not cease to exist in the land; therefore I am commanding you, saying,‘ You shall fully open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’
