The wicked person borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving.

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;

Sinful people borrow and don’t pay back. But those who are godly give freely to others.

The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;

The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.

The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.

He distributes freely to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted in honor.

The LORD will open for you his abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.

For God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you demonstrated for his name by serving the saints— and by continuing to serve them.

One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha,“ Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the LORD. Now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves.”Elisha asked her,“ What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She said,“ Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”Then he said,“ Go out and borrow empty containers from all your neighbors. Do not get just a few.Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these containers. Set the full ones to one side.”So she left. After she had shut the door behind her and her sons, they kept bringing her containers, and she kept pouring.

The resident alien among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.He will lend to you, but you won’t lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.

In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

But a noble person plans noble things; he stands up for noble causes.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the LORD’s glory will be your rear guard.At that time, when you call, the LORD will answer; when you cry out, he will say,‘ Here I am.’ If you get rid of the yoke among you, the finger-pointing and malicious speaking,and if you offer yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted one, then your light will shine in the darkness, and your night will be like noonday.

If I have refused the wishes of the poor or let the widow’s eyes go blind,if I have eaten my few crumbs alone without letting the fatherless eat any of it—for from my youth, I raised him as his father, and since the day I was born I guided the widow—if I have seen anyone dying for lack of clothing or a needy person without a cloak,if he did not bless me while warming himself with the fleece from my sheep,

Each of the disciples, according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brothers and sisters who lived in Judea.

The point is this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.Each person should do as he has decided in his heart— not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.As it is written: He distributed freely; he gave to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.Now the one who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will also provide and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.Because of the proof provided by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedient confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone.And as they pray on your behalf, they will have deep affection for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you.Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

There was a widespread outcry from the people and their wives against their Jewish countrymen.Some were saying,“ We, our sons, and our daughters are numerous. Let us get grain so that we can eat and live.”Others were saying,“ We are mortgaging our fields, vineyards, and homes to get grain during the famine.”Still others were saying,“ We have borrowed money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.We and our children are just like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already enslaved, but we are powerless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask for them back.

Be careful that there isn’t this wicked thought in your heart,‘ The seventh year, the year of canceling debts, is near,’ and you are stingy toward your poor brother and give him nothing. He will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty.Give to him, and don’t have a stingy heart when you give, and because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you do.For there will never cease to be poor people in the land; that is why I am commanding you,‘ Open your hand willingly to your poor and needy brother in your land.’
