And one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him:

Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed,“ As the Lord lives, David shall not be put to death.”Then Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these words. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.

But Samuel said to Saul,“ I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

For there is nothing trustworthy in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue.

For Saul thought,“ I will give her to him so that she may become a trap for him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David,“ For a second time you may become my son in law, today.”

But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The Lord will lead them away with those who practice injustice. Peace be upon Israel.

Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said.And they* sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone.Tell us then, what do You think? Is it permissible to pay a poll tax to Caesar, or not?”But Jesus perceived their malice, and said,“ Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?

But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.

Then Saul said,“ I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will not harm you again since my life was precious in your sight this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have made a very great mistake.”

Now the Spirit of the Lord left Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord terrified him.

But Samuel said to Saul,“ You have acted foolishly! You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, for the Lord would now have established your kingdom over Israel forever.But now your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

They sharpen their tongues like a snake; The venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah

Then the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and he became very angry.He then took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying,“ Whoever does not come out after Saul and after Samuel, the same shall be done to his oxen.” Then the dread of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out as one person.He counted them in Bezek; and the sons of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah, thirty thousand.They said to the messengers who had come,“ This is what you shall say to the men of Jabesh gilead:‘ Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be saved.’ ” So the messengers went and told the men of Jabesh; and they rejoiced.Then the men of Jabesh said,“ Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.”The next morning Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp at the morning watch, and struck and killed the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived scattered, so that no two of them were left together.Then the people said to Samuel,“ Who is he that said,‘ Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, so that we may put them to death!”But Saul said,“ Not a single person shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has brought about victory in Israel.”
