The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.

And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.

And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.

And Samuel said to Saul,“ I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.

Saul thought,“ Let me give her to him, that she may be a snare for him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time,“ You shall now be my son-in-law.”

But those who turn aside to their crooked ways the Lord will lead away with evildoers! Peace be upon Israel!

Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words.And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But Jesus, aware of their malice, said,“ Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

Then Saul said,“ I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have acted foolishly, and have made a great mistake.”

Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a harmful spirit from the Lord tormented him.

And Samuel said to Saul,“ You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah

And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled.He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying,“ Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the Lord fell upon the people, and they came out as one man.When he mustered them at Bezek, the people of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.And they said to the messengers who had come,“ Thus shall you say to the men of Jabesh-gilead:‘ Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have salvation.’” When the messengers came and told the men of Jabesh, they were glad.Therefore the men of Jabesh said,“ Tomorrow we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.”And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.Then the people said to Samuel,“ Who is it that said,‘ Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.”But Saul said,“ Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation in Israel.”
