But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:[ yea], the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew[ it] not; they did tear[ me], and ceased not:

惟我遭難、彼眾歡聚、下流之輩、我不識者、集而攻我、裂之不已兮、

予也遭難、彼眾咸集、懽然以喜兮、譭謗沸騰、背予而詈、靡有底止兮、

至我遭難、彼眾反歡樂聚集、素不相識之匪類、亦皆聚集毀謗不止、

一朝我罹難。欣然相慶祝。落井更投石。心中懷叵測。

But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; assailants gathered against me without my knowledge. They slandered me without ceasing.

But when I tripped and fell, they were all very happy. Attackers gathered against me when I didn’t even know it. They kept on telling lies about me.

But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered; they gathered together against me; wretches whom I did not know tore at me without ceasing;

But they are glad now that I am in trouble; they gleefully join together against me. I am attacked by people I don’t even know; they slander me constantly.

But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; they gathered against me. Assailants I did not know tore at me and did not stop.

But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The afflicted people whom I did not know gathered together against me, They slandered me without ceasing.

Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending[ it] in pieces, while[ there is] none to deliver.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

He teareth[ me] in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

For I[ am] ready to halt, and my sorrow[ is] continually before me.

An evil disease,[ say they], cleaveth fast unto him: and[ now] that he lieth he shall rise up no more.

They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I[ was] the song of the drunkards.

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band[ of soldiers].And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put[ it] upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify[ themselves] against me.

My soul[ is] among lions:[ and] I lie[ even among] them that are set on fire,[ even] the sons of men, whose teeth[ are] spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:Lest the LORD see[ it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

But now[ they that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.Yea, whereto[ might] the strength of their hands[ profit] me, in whom old age was perished?For want and famine[ they were] solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots[ for] their meat.They were driven forth from among[ men],( they cried after them as[ after] a thief;)To dwell in the clifts of the valleys,[ in] caves of the earth, and[ in] the rocks.Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.[ They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.Upon[ my] right[ hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest[ it] in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.Likewise also the chief priests mocking[ him], with the scribes and elders, said,He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker:[ and] he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for[ there is] none to deliver[ him].

For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report,[ say they], and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting,[ saying], Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
