In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.

You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of mankind; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them.

Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions.

The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.

But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying.For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

Hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers.They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly.

In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.
