I hear many people whispering,“ There is terror all around him!” Many have joined together against me. They plan to kill me.

For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.

I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.

But Michal, David’s wife, warned him,“ If you don’t run for your life tonight, tomorrow you’ll be killed.”So Michal let David down through a window, and he fled and escaped.Then Michal took an idol and laid it on the bed, covering it with a garment and putting some goats’ hair at the head.When Saul sent the men to capture David, Michal said,“ He is ill.”Then Saul sent the men back to see David and told them,“ Bring him up to me in his bed so that I may kill him.”But when the men entered, there was the idol in the bed, and at the head was some goats’ hair.Saul said to Michal,“ Why did you deceive me like this and send my enemy away so that he escaped?” Michal told him,“ He said to me,‘ Let me get away. Why should I kill you?’”

Is that why you have all conspired against me? No one tells me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is concerned about me or tells me that my son has incited my servant to lie in wait for me, as he does today.”But Doeg the Edomite, who was standing with Saul’s officials, said,“ I saw the son of Jesse come to Ahimelek son of Ahitub at Nob.Ahimelek inquired of the Lord for him; he also gave him provisions and the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”

But they insisted,“ He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”

He said to Saul,“ Why do you listen when men say,‘ David is bent on harming you’?

The next day, when Pashhur released him from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him,“ The Lord’s name for you is not Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.For this is what the Lord says:‘ I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; with your own eyes you will see them fall by the sword of their enemies. I will give all Judah into the hands of the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to Babylon or put them to the sword.
