For I hear many whispering,“ Terror on every side!” They conspire against me and plot to take my life.

I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.

And David fled and escaped that night.Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, told him,“ If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped.Michal took an image and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats’ hair at its head and covered it with the clothes.And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said,“ He is sick.”Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying,“ Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”And when the messengers came in, behold, the image was in the bed, with the pillow of goats’ hair at its head.Saul said to Michal,“ Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul,“ He said to me,‘ Let me go. Why should I kill you?’”

My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts— the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

But they were urgent, saying,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”

And David said to Saul,“ Why do you listen to the words of men who say,‘ Behold, David seeks your harm’?

The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him,“ The Lord does not call your name Pashhur, but Terror On Every Side.For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall strike them down with the sword.
