You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.

O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.

for your love for me is very great. You have rescued me from the depths of death.

For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.

God rescued me from the grave, and now my life is filled with light.’

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.

Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins.For the dead cannot praise you; they cannot raise their voices in praise. Those who go down to the grave can no longer hope in your faithfulness.

He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.

Then I said,‘ O Lord, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’“ I sank beneath the waves, and the waters closed over me. Seaweed wrapped itself around my head.I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O Lord my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!

“ Or God disciplines people with pain on their sickbeds, with ceaseless aching in their bones.They lose their appetite for even the most delicious food.Their flesh wastes away, and their bones stick out.They are at death’s door; the angels of death wait for them.
