In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money.Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them,“ Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures:“ Passion for God’s house will consume me.”

The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music.

Then Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices.He said to them,“ The Scriptures declare,‘ My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”After that, he taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him.

For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.

A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.

“ But why did you need to search?” he asked.“ Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

And Hezekiah had asked,“ What sign will prove that I will go to the Temple of the Lord?”

Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.

The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God.Then Solomon prayed,“ O Lord, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness.Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!”

I was glad when they said to me,“ Let us go to the house of the Lord.”And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem.Jerusalem is a well built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached.All the tribes of Israel— the Lord’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law requires of Israel.

Then the king instructed Zadok to take the Ark of God back into the city.“ If the Lord sees fit,” David said,“ he will bring me back to see the Ark and the Tabernacle again.

Think of it— the Lord is ready to heal me! I will sing his praises with instruments every day of my life in the Temple of the Lord.

“ And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple.

Place inside the Ark the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you. Then put the atonement cover on top of the Ark.I will meet with you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover between the gold cherubim that hover over the Ark of the Covenant. From there I will give you my commands for the people of Israel.

I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory.Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!

Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions.

My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!
