The Lord gives his own reward for doing good and for being loyal, and I refused to kill you even when the Lord placed you in my power, for you are the Lord’s anointed one.

But Paul replied,“ No! This is the official Roman court, so I ought to be tried right here. You know very well I am not guilty of harming the Jews.If I have done something worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die. But if I am innocent, no one has a right to turn me over to these men to kill me. I appeal to Caesar!”

The Lord judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O Lord, for I am innocent, O Most High!

But I am not like that; I live with integrity. So redeem me and show me mercy.

Declare me innocent, O Lord, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.

Look, my father, at what I have in my hand. It is a piece of the hem of your robe! I cut it off, but I didn’t kill you. This proves that I am not trying to harm you and that I have not sinned against you, even though you have been hunting for me to kill me.“ May the Lord judge between us. Perhaps the Lord will punish you for what you are trying to do to me, but I will never harm you.As that old proverb says,‘ From evil people come evil deeds.’ So you can be sure I will never harm you.

The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.

Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and all people.

My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.”
