At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.Then at three o’clock Jesus called out with a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means“ My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”Some of the bystanders misunderstood and thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah.

You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses. You have been angry with us; now restore us to your favor.

Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

“ O our God, hear your servant’s prayer! Listen as I plead. For your own sake, Lord, smile again on your desolate sanctuary.
