For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.

滄溟之上。肇建寰宇。狂瀾是鎮。中流砥柱。

for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

He set it firmly on the oceans. He made it secure on the waters.

Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. His faithful love endures forever.

You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved.You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains.

Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.

Then God said,“ Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” And that is what happened.God called the dry ground“ land” and the waters“ seas.” And God saw that it was good.

Tell all the nations,“ The Lord reigns!” The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly.

Say this to those who worship other gods:“ Your so called gods, who did not make the heavens and earth, will vanish from the earth and from under the heavens.”But the Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens.When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses.The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power.Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed.But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including Israel, his own special possession. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name!

He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.

They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water.Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood.And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.

The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken.

“ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much.

The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.

As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”

“ Who kept the sea inside its boundaries as it burst from the womb,and as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness?For I locked it behind barred gates, limiting its shores.I said,‘ This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!’
