Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,

All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.

All those who see me laugh at me. They shout at me and make fun of me. They shake their heads at me.

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Ha! Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days.

I am a joke to people everywhere; when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.

You have made us the butt of their jokes; they shake their heads at us in scorn.

“ I’ll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question,” Jesus replied.“ Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human? Answer me!”They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.But do we dare say it was merely human?” For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet.

“ Get out!” he told them.“ The girl isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” But the crowd laughed at him.

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.

People jeer and laugh at me. They slap my cheek in contempt. A mob gathers against me.

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed.“ He saved others,” they said,“ let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine.They called out to him,“ If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”A sign was fastened above him with these words:“ This is the King of the Jews.”One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed,“ So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself— and us, too, while you’re at it!”

I could say the same things if you were in my place. I could spout off criticism and shake my head at you.

Then Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Finally, they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

What is your verdict?”“ Guilty!” they shouted.“ He deserves to die!”Then they began to spit in Jesus’ face and beat him with their fists. And some slapped him,jeering,“ Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?”

He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

But they are glad now that I am in trouble; they gleefully join together against me. I am attacked by people I don’t even know; they slander me constantly.They mock me and call me names; they snarl at me.

They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”

the Lord has spoken this word against him:“ The virgin daughter of Zion despises you and laughs at you. The daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head in derision as you flee.“ Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!

“ And now they mock me with vulgar songs! They taunt me!They despise me and won’t come near me, except to spit in my face.For God has cut my bowstring. He has humbled me, so they have thrown off all restraint.

Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.

Whom do you mock, making faces and sticking out your tongues? You children of sinners and liars!
