My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?

My God, my God, why have you deserted me? Why do you seem so far away when I need you to save me? Why do you seem so far away that you can’t hear my groans?

Around three o’clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means,“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

At about three o’clock Jesus shouted with a loud voice,“ Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is,“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

During his earthly life Christ offered both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his devotion.

For my sighing comes in place of my food, and my groanings flow forth like water.

Yes, wild dogs surround me– a gang of evil men crowd around me; like a lion they pin my hands and feet.

The LORD will not abandon his people because he wants to uphold his great reputation. The LORD was pleased to make you his own people.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

Vindicate me, O God! Fight for me against an ungodly nation! Deliver me from deceitful and evil men!For you are the God who shelters me. Why do you reject me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?Reveal your light and your faithfulness! They will lead me, they will escort me back to your holy hill, and to the place where you live.Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy, so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God, with a harp.Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

I am numb with pain and severely battered; I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel.

They say,“ God has abandoned him. Run and seize him, for there is no one who will rescue him!”

For the LORD promotes justice, and never abandons his faithful followers. They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out.

When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long.For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer.( Selah)

Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?

As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God!I thirst for God, for the living God. I say,“ When will I be able to go and appear in God’s presence?”

Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you.

Do not remain far away from me, for trouble is near and I have no one to help me.

Then he said to them,“ These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.”

And in his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.]

But I trust in you, O LORD! I declare,“ You are my God!”You determine my destiny! Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me.Smile on your servant! Deliver me because of your faithfulness!

I am bringing my deliverance near, it is not far away; I am bringing my salvation near, it does not wait. I will save Zion; I will adorn Israel with my splendor.”

We all growl like bears, we coo mournfully like doves; we wait for deliverance, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far from us.

Do not sweep me away with sinners, or execute me along with violent people,
