Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.

When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men to kill all the children in Bethlehem and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.

He sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and look carefully for the child. When you find him, inform me so that I can go and worship him as well.”

The LORD gave me knowledge, that I might have understanding. Then he showed me what the people were doing.Before this I had been like a docile lamb ready to be led to the slaughter. I did not know they were making plans to kill me. I did not know they were saying,“ Let’s destroy the tree along with its fruit! Let’s remove Jeremiah from the world of the living so people will not even be reminded of him any more.”

They say,“ Come on, let’s annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more.”

Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it.His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.The guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him.But the angel said to the women,“ Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying.

But to keep this matter from spreading any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.”And they called them in and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

For I hear what so many are saying, the terrifying news that comes from every direction. When they plot together against me, they figure out how they can take my life.

and said,“ Sir, we remember that while that deceiver was still alive he said,‘ After three days I will rise again.’So give orders to secure the tomb until the third day. Otherwise his disciples may come and steal his body and say to the people,‘ He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

For they do not try to make peace with others, but plan ways to deceive those who are unsuspecting.

They say,“ Let’s attack Judah, terrorize it, and conquer it. Then we’ll set up the son of Tabeel as its king.”For this reason the sovereign master, the LORD, says:“ It will not take place; it will not happen.

You will be broken, O nations; you will be shattered! Pay attention, all you distant lands of the earth! Get ready for battle, and you will be shattered! Get ready for battle, and you will be shattered!Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted! Issue your orders, but they will not be executed! For God is with us!

They planned to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.But they said,“ Not during the feast, so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds regarded him as a prophet.

The LORD said to me,“ Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked advice in this city.

When they had brought them, they stood them before the council, and the high priest questioned them,saying,“ We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name. Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood on us!”
