When it was early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to execute him.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were trying to find false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

He first found his own brother Simon and told him,“ We have found the Messiah!”( which is translated Christ).

You love justice and hate evil. For this reason God, your God has anointed you with the oil of joy, elevating you above your companions.

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, dressing him in elegant clothes, Herod sent him back to Pilate.That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other, for prior to this they had been enemies.

For look, the kings assemble; they advance together.

About that time King Herod laid hands on some from the church to harm them.He had James, the brother of John, executed with a sword.When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too.( This took place during the feast of Unleavened Bread.)When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod planned to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly praying to God for him.On that very night before Herod was going to bring him out for trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison.

with respect to Jesus from Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

O sovereign LORD, at your right hand he strikes down kings in the day he unleashes his anger.

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against the LORD.

So now, you kings, do what is wise; you rulers of the earth, submit to correction!

Do not disregard what your enemies say, or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you.

When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men to kill all the children in Bethlehem and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.

On the next day, their rulers, elders, and experts in the law came together in Jerusalem.Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family.After making Peter and John stand in their midst, they began to inquire,“ By what power or by what name did you do this?”Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied,“ Rulers of the people and elders,

and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings against the LORD. As for us, what are we, that you should murmur against us?”

For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit sparingly.

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met together in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

The one who hates me hates my Father too.

You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. So God, your God, has anointed you over your companions with the oil of rejoicing.”

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,“ Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”
