Praise the Lord, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy.For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Now rescue your beloved people. Answer and save us by your power.

Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.

“ Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power. Your right hand, O Lord, smashes the enemy.

For my own honor and for the sake of my servant David, I will defend this city and protect it.”

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Arise, O Lord! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think,“ God will never call us to account.”But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

David replied to the Philistine,“ You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies— the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!”As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword.Then David ran over and pulled Goliath’s sword from its sheath. David used it to kill him and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran.Then the men of Israel and Judah gave a great shout of triumph and rushed after the Philistines, chasing them as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron. The bodies of the dead and wounded Philistines were strewn all along the road from Shaaraim, as far as Gath and Ekron.Then the Israelite army returned and plundered the deserted Philistine camp.( David took the Philistine’s head to Jerusalem, but he stored the man’s armor in his own tent.)As Saul watched David go out to fight the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of his army,“ Abner, whose son is this young man?”“ I really don’t know,” Abner declared.“ Well, find out who he is!” the king told him.As soon as David returned from killing Goliath, Abner brought him to Saul with the Philistine’s head still in his hand.

the miracles he did for their ancestors on the plain of Zoan in the land of Egypt.

And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:“ Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations.

The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”

“ Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!

They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It was your right hand and strong arm and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them.

Please forgive me if I have offended you in any way. The Lord will surely reward you with a lasting dynasty, for you are fighting the Lord’s battles. And you have not done wrong throughout your entire life.“ Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling!
