Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

I will lay it a wasteland. It won’t be pruned or hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.”

For he draws up the drops of water, which distill in rain from his vapor,which the skies pour down and which drop on man abundantly.Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion?Behold, he spreads his light around him. He covers the bottom of the sea.For by these he judges the people. He gives food in abundance.He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.Its noise tells about him, and the livestock also concerning the storm that comes up.

Yet he didn’t leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
