Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O Lord our God? Therefore we will wait for You, Since You have made all these.

I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it.”

For He draws up drops of water, Which distill as rain from the mist,Which the clouds drop down And pour abundantly on man.Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds, The thunder from His canopy?Look, He scatters his light upon it, And covers the depths of the sea.For by these He judges the peoples; He gives food in abundance.He covers His hands with lightning, And commands it to strike.His thunder declares it, The cattle also, concerning the rising storm.

Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
