The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.

And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.And the spies questioned Him, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.Is it permissible for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But He saw through their trickery and said to them,

Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me, And from the snares of those who do wrong.May the wicked fall into their own nets, While I pass by safely.

Should good be repaid with evil? For they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You To speak good in their behalf, So as to turn Your wrath away from them.

The arrogant have dug pits for me, People who are not in accord with Your Law.

May the foot of pride not come upon me, And may the hand of the wicked not drive me away.

Be gracious to us, Lord, be gracious to us, For we have had much more than enough of contempt.Our soul has had much more than enough Of the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.

When He left that place, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him about many subjects,plotting against Him to catch Him in something He might say.

Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wingsFrom the wicked who deal violently with me, My deadly enemies who surround me.They have closed their unfeeling hearts, With their mouths they speak proudly.They have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground.He is like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion lurking in secret places.Arise, Lord, confront him, make him bow down; Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword,

You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength.

A snare seizes him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him.

The arrogant have forged a lie against me; With all my heart I will comply with Your precepts.

The wicked, in his haughtiness, does not seek Him. There is no God in all his schemes.His ways succeed at all times; Yet Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.He says to himself,“ I will not be moved; Throughout the generations I will not be in adversity.”His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression; Under his tongue is harm and injustice.He sits in the lurking places of the villages; He kills the innocent in the secret places; His eyes surreptitiously watch for the unfortunate.He lurks in secret like a lion in his lair; He lurks to catch the needy; He catches the needy when he pulls him into his net.Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers; And unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.He says to himself,“ God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”Arise, Lord; God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the humble.

A man who flatters his neighbor Is spreading a net for his steps.

Then they said,“ Come and let’s devise plans against Jeremiah. Certainly the Law is not going to be lost by the priest, nor advice by the wise, nor the divine word by the prophet! Come, and let’s strike at him with our tongue, and let’s pay no attention to any of his words.”

The wicked have set a trap for me, Yet I have not wandered from Your precepts.
