Attention! Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who serve in the LORD’s temple during the night.

Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.

Praise the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord; praise him, you servants of the Lord,you who minister in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.

My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him, to minister before him and to burn incense.”

Then a voice came from the throne, saying:“ Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small!”

You must stay at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and do what the Lord requires, so you will not die; for that is what I have been commanded.”

I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.

I rejoiced with those who said to me,“ Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

All you Israelites, praise the Lord; house of Aaron, praise the Lord;house of Levi, praise the Lord; you who fear him, praise the Lord.Praise be to the Lord from Zion, to him who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the Lord.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.

If the Lord had not been on our side— let Israel say—

and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.

Lord, remember David and all his self- denial.

“ They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,” let Israel say;

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.

They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord— the house called the tent of meeting.

They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the eveningand whenever burnt offerings were presented to the Lord on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals. They were to serve before the Lord regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them.And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the Lord.

At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

Therefore,“ they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.
