David found favor in God’s sight, and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.But it was Solomon who built a house for Him.However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:‘ Heaven is My throne, And the earth is the footstool of My feet; What kind of house will you build for Me?’ says the Lord,‘ Or what place is there for My rest?

David said to Solomon,“ My son, I had intended to build a house for the name of the Lord my God.

Now they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

“ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!

And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place which he had prepared for it.

But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain Him? And who am I, that I should build a house for Him, except to burn incense before Him?

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is My throne and the earth is the footstool for My feet. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?

and he said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites; consecrate yourselves, you and your relatives, so that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.
