如屋巔之草、未長而枯兮、

如屋巔之草、未拔而槁兮、

願彼如屋頂之草、未拔已枯、

猶如屋巔草。未秀先枯萎。

May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;

May they be like grass that grows on the roof of a house. It dries up before it can grow.

Let them be like the grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up,

May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown,

This is what the Lord says:“ Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord.For he will be like a bush in the desert, And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, A land of salt that is not inhabited.

Therefore their inhabitants were powerless, They were shattered and put to shame; They were like the vegetation of the field and the green grass, Like grass on the housetops that is scorched before it has grown.

When the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did injustice flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.
