若非主建造房室、匠人勞苦、亦屬枉然、若非主保護城池、守者警醒、亦為無益、

微主建爾屋。建屋徒自苦。微主守爾城。守城豈能固。

If the Lord doesn’t build a house, the work of the builders is useless. If the Lord doesn’t watch over a city, it’s useless for those on guard duty to stand watch over it.

Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

For we are co- workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved— even though only as one escaping through the flames.

So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.

No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

Lift up a banner against the walls of Babylon! Reinforce the guard, station the watchmen, prepare an ambush! The Lord will carry out his purpose, his decree against the people of Babylon.

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest,

If the Lord had not been on our side— let Israel say—

Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.”

David also said to Solomon his son,“ Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”

He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’“ Now, my son, the Lord be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.

and said to him:“ Run, tell that young man,‘ Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it.And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will be its glory within.’

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.

“ Son of man, speak to your people and say to them:‘ When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people,then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’“ Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.

The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city.“ Have you seen the one my heart loves?”

Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it.

They set the tables, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink! Get up, you officers, oil the shields!This is what the Lord says to me:“ Go, post a lookout and have him report what he sees.When he sees chariots with teams of horses, riders on donkeys or riders on camels, let him be alert, fully alert.”And the lookout shouted,“ Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post.Look, here comes a man in a chariot with a team of horses. And he gives back the answer:‘ Babylon has fallen, has fallen! All the images of its gods lie shattered on the ground!’”My people who are crushed on the threshing floor, I tell you what I have heard from the Lord Almighty, from the God of Israel.A prophecy against Dumah: Someone calls to me from Seir,“ Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”The watchman replies,“ Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again.”

The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city. They beat me, they bruised me; they took away my cloak, those watchmen of the walls!

One courier follows another and messenger follows messenger to announce to the king of Babylon that his entire city is captured,

Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness.
