The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying,‘ God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish— stones that are burned?”Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said,“ Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.”Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity!

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants— How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,With which Your enemies have reproached, O Lord, With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed.

And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying,“ He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Lord, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink; Let me be delivered from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.Let not the floodwater overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.Hear me, O Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scorn and a derision to those all around us.You make us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.My dishonor is continually before me, And the shame of my face has covered me,Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the enemy and the avenger.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me.My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.
