The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people: extortionists, unrighteous people, adulterers– or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said,‘ God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!’

and in the presence of his colleagues and the army of Samaria he said,“ What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they be left to themselves? Will they again offer sacrifice? Will they finish this in a day? Can they bring these burnt stones to life again from piles of dust?”Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was close by, said,“ If even a fox were to climb up on what they are building, it would break down their wall of stones!”Hear, O our God, for we are despised! Return their reproach on their own head! Reduce them to plunder in a land of exile!

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

Take note, O Lord, of the way your servants are taunted, and of how I must bear so many insults from people!Your enemies, O LORD, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps.

The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed him, saying,“ He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

O LORD, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me! O God, because of your great loyal love, answer me with your faithful deliverance!Rescue me from the mud! Don’t let me sink! Deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep water!Don’t let the current overpower me! Don’t let the deep swallow me up! Don’t let the pit devour me!Answer me, O LORD, for your loyal love is good! Because of your great compassion, turn toward me!

You made us an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us.You made us an object of ridicule among the nations; foreigners treat us with contempt.All day long I feel humiliated and am overwhelmed with shame,before the vindictive enemy who ridicules and insults me.

When I call out, answer me, O God who vindicates me! Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place. Have mercy on me and respond to my prayer!

Have mercy on me, O God, for men are attacking me! All day long hostile enemies are tormenting me.Those who anticipate my defeat attack me all day long. Indeed, many are fighting against me, O Exalted One.

The Pharisees( who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed him.
