The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me a sinner.

He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.

Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty peoples,Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah, Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen.

But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me,For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness; Thou hast set me at large when I was in distress: Have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: All the day long he fighting oppresseth me.Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long; For they are many that fight proudly against me.

And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.
