嗟爾青年。何以潔身。其惟立志。聖訓是遵。

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping Your word.

BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed[ thereto] according to thy word.

How can a young person maintain a pure life? By guarding it according to your instructions!

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

Therefore, ridding yourselves of all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves.For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does.

so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoings; Remember me according to Your faithfulness, For Your goodness’ sake, Lord.

Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the Law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may achieve success wherever you go.

and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness;so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

I have treasured Your word in my heart, So that I may not sin against You.

My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.

Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night.He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

How I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day.Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine.I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.I understand more than those who are old, Because I have complied with Your precepts.I have restrained my feet from every evil way, So that I may keep Your word.I have not turned aside from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me.How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. NunYour word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold; Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.Moreover, Your servant is warned by them; In keeping them there is great reward.

Listen, my son, and accept my sayings, And the years of your life will be many.I have instructed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths.When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; And if you run, you will not stumble.Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.Do not enter the path of the wicked And do not proceed in the way of evil people.Avoid it, do not pass by it; Turn away from it and pass on.For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

Listen, my sons, to the instruction of a father, And pay attention so that you may gain understanding,

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead.You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

My son, comply with the commandment of your father, And do not ignore the teaching of your mother;Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.When you walk, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And rebukes for discipline are the way of lifeTo keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the foreign woman.Do not desire her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.For the price of a prostitute reduces one to a loaf of bread, And an adulteress hunts for a precious life.Can anyone take fire in his lap And his clothes not be burned?Or can a person walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched?So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.People do not despise a thief if he steals To satisfy himself when he is hungry;But when he is found, he must repay seven times as much; He must give up all the property of his house.One who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; He who would destroy himself commits it.He will find wounds and disgrace, And his shame will not be removed.For jealousy enrages a man, And he will not have compassion on the day of vengeance.He will not accept any settlement, Nor will he be satisfied though you make it a large gift.

To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion,

We will not conceal them from their children, But we will tell the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His power and His wondrous works that He has done.For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they were to teach them to their children,So that the generation to come would know, the children yet to be born, That they would arise and tell them to their children,So that they would put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But comply with His commandments,And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things.So remove sorrow from your heart and keep pain away from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years approach when you will say,“ I have no pleasure in them”;

For You write bitter things against me And make me inherit the guilty deeds of my youth.

Now then, my sons, listen to me And do not turn away from the words of my mouth.Keep your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house,Otherwise you will give your vigor to others, And your years to the cruel one;And strangers will be filled with your strength, And your hard earned possessions will go to the house of a foreigner;And you will groan in the end, When your flesh and your body are consumed;And you say,“ How I hated instruction! And my heart disdainfully rejected rebuke!I did not listen to the voice of my teachers, Nor incline my ear to my instructors!I was almost in total ruin In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”Drink water from your own cistern, And fresh water from your own well.Should your springs overflow into the street, Streams of water in the public squares?Let them be yours alone, And not for strangers with you.Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth.Like a loving doe and a graceful mountain goat, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress, And embrace the breasts of a foreigner?For the ways of everyone are before the eyes of the Lord, And He observes all his paths.His own wrongdoings will trap the wicked, And he will be held by the ropes of his sin.He will die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his foolishness he will go astray.

Now then, Lord, God of Israel, keep to Your servant David, my father, that which You promised him, saying,‘ You shall not lack a man to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay attention to their way, to walk in My Law as you have walked before Me.’

And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his estate in wild living.

When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send word to them and consecrate them, getting up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said,“ Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.

And I saw among the naive, And discerned among the youths A young man lacking sense,

“ Now it shall come about, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this Law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.
