And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.We were given this hope when we were saved.( If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it.But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)

I love God’s law with all my heart.But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me.

I long for your rescue, Lord, so I have obeyed your commands.I have obeyed your laws, for I love them very much.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.

I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure.
