Look, O Lord, and see! With whom have you dealt thus? Should women eat the fruit of their womb, the children of their tender care? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,lest my enemy say,“ I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.

I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.

Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.

Then the Lord said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Be gracious to me, O Lord! See my affliction from those who hate me, O you who lift me up from the gates of death,

I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.

“ Now, therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments,

Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me.
