My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words.

My anger is wearing me out, because my enemies don’t pay any attention to your words.

My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words.

I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded your words.

My anger overwhelms me because my foes forget your words.

My zeal has consumed me, Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.

My zeal hath consumed me, Because mine adversaries have forgotten thy words.

Then His disciples remembered that it was written,“ Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”

Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

So he said,“ I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures:‘ The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

For God commanded, saying,‘ Honor your father and your mother’; and,‘ He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’But you say,‘ Whoever says to his father or mother,“ Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”—then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word:“ The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,saying,‘ Go to this people and say:“ Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”’

Jesus answered and said to them,“ You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

But He said to them,“ Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?

And he said,“ I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.

and said to Him,“ Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them,“ Yes. Have you never read,‘ Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”

Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon God?

And He said to them,“ It is written,‘ My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a‘ den of thieves.’”

But go and learn what this means:‘ I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
