I serve you, so help me to understand what is right. Then I will understand your covenant laws.

Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.Such“ wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts.

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me.

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him,“ Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”Solomon answered God,“ You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place.Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth.Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant— not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did.

Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands.
