I serve you, so help me to understand what is right. Then I will understand your covenant laws.

I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

Lord, I serve you. I serve you just as my mother did. You have set me free from the chains of my suffering.

Is anyone among you wise and understanding? That person should show it by living a good life. A wise person isn’t proud when they do good deeds.But suppose your hearts are jealous and bitter. Suppose you are concerned only about getting ahead. Then don’t brag about it. And don’t say no to the truth.Wisdom like this doesn’t come down from heaven. It belongs to the earth. It doesn’t come from the Holy Spirit. It comes from the devil.Are you jealous? Are you concerned only about getting ahead? Then your life will be a mess. You will be doing all kinds of evil things.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is pure. That’s the most important thing about it. And that’s not all. It also loves peace. It thinks about others. It obeys. It is full of mercy and good fruit. It is fair. It doesn’t pretend to be what it is not.

Help me understand your law so that I may follow it. I will obey it with all my heart.

Save me, because I belong to you. I’ve tried to obey your rules.

You have been set free from sin. God has made you his slaves. The benefit you gain leads to holy living. And the end result is eternal life.

If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault.

Keep me from cheating and telling lies. Be kind to me and teach me your law.

If you want to become wise, you must begin by respecting the Lord. To know the Holy One is to gain understanding.

I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won’t sin against you.

Think about what I’m saying. The Lord will help you understand what all of it means.

Open my eyes so that I can see the wonderful truths in your law.I’m a stranger on earth. Don’t hide your commands from me.

That night God appeared to Solomon. He said to him,“ Ask for anything you want me to give you.”Solomon answered God,“ You were very kind to my father David. Now you have made me king in his place.Lord God, let the promise you gave to my father David come true. You have made me king. My people are as many as the dust of the earth. They can’t be counted.Give me wisdom and knowledge. Then I’ll be able to lead these people. Without your help, who would be able to rule this great nation of yours?”

People are wise and understanding when they think about the way they live. But people are foolish when their foolish ways trick them.

In ourselves we are not able to claim anything for ourselves. The power to do what we do comes from God.He has given us the power to serve under a new covenant. The covenant is not based on the written Law of Moses. It comes from the Holy Spirit. The written Law kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Come to my aid and have mercy on me. Show your strength by helping me. Save me because I serve you just as my mother did.

Increase my knowledge and give me good sense, because I trust your commands.
