The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

During his earthly life Christ offered both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his devotion.

When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long.For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer.( Selah)

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.But he lifted up our illnesses, he carried our pain; even though we thought he was being punished, attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done.

The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.The ropes of Sheol tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried out to my God. From his heavenly temple he heard my voice; he listened to my cry for help.

You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, in the dark places, in the watery depths.Your anger bears down on me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves.( Selah)

And in his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.]

and said,“ I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer.You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me.

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.He said to them,“ My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Remain here and stay alert.”Going a little farther, he threw himself to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour would pass from him.He said,“ Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
